The Lid

Most people who know Gilwell will remember the Storm Hut and Lid based on the entrance to the camp square.

As part of the ongoing redevelopment of Gilwell the Association has recently completed a major refurbishment and extension to the Lid.  The work has been funded primarily by Gilwell Park with donations from the Robert Hall Foundation and the Worshipful company of Actuaries.

The new Lid is even bigger and better than before !  Inside the main hall a purpose built climbing wall, bouldering wall and high ropes elements have all been added.  Additionally, a staff briefing room for our ever growing number of activity instructors has been incorporated and two classrooms added to allow a range of additional educational activities to be undertaken.  Outside on the site of the old Storm Hut which had to be demolished for safety reason stands the Boy Scout statue a gift from American Scouting which stood outside the front of the old Lid.

With the increase in activity provision Gilwell continues to offer and attract more Scouts year round.  Complementing the new Lodges the new activity and educational area allows us to continue to develop Gilwell to meet the needs of Scouting for a number of years to come.
