Directions to Gilwell Park

Where is Gilwell Park?

Gilwell Park is based in North-East London on the border of Greater London and Essex. Although the Park has a London address and telephone number the boundaries of London and Essex cut through the estate.  The council boundaries include Gilwell in the borough of Epping Forest Council which is part of the County of Essex.
It is a 10 minute drive from either junction 26 of the M25 or the North Circular (A406).

Nearest Town

Chingford is the nearest town to Gilwell Park which is about a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk. Chingford has a mainline railway station which is direct from London's Liverpool Street station. The train takes about 25 minutes from Liverpool Street and Chingford is the end of the line. Chingford has plenty of banks and a post office if you need to withdraw cash and all are located along the main high street turning left out from the station.

Trains run regularly in both directions at about 15 minute intervals every day of the week. Timetables and journey planners are available online from National Rail

Please note Oyster cards are now permitted on this route. They were introduced in January 2010. If you don't have an Oyster Card you can buy one as a visitor to London

If you don't have an Oyster card and don't intend on buying one a travelcard is generally the best option for a days travel in London if you are using the Chingford line. It is best to wait until after the rush hour (9.30 am weekdays) before buying a ticket and travelling. This will save you money as the ticket will be cheaper.

Taxis are available at the station from the car park outside the main entrance. If there are no taxis then please call + 44 (0) 20 8509 9999 or +44 (0) 20 8524 1111. The cost should be about £4.

If the trains to Chingford are not working for any reason it is still possible to get to Gilwell Park. You will need to travel on the underground's Central Line (red) from Central London to Loughton (pronounced Louwton) and travel in a taxi from the station to Gilwell Park. The taxi will take no more than 15 minutes.

If you have any problems please call us on +44 (0) 20 8433 7100 and ask for directions to Gilwell Park.
